What a week we've had! A week ago we were all five battling a nasty flu bug. By Wednesday we were all finally feeling better. We had fresh snow on the ground and then Wednesday night brought an ice storm that left most in our region without power. It was a widespread power outage from North of Seattle to South of Olympia. We were without power for 77 hours. We are thankful that we never really did get too cold. We had a generator that we ran in the morning and the evening for heat and powering our chest freezer. We cooked on the gas stove and still had running water since we aren't on well water here. We had a family staying with us from North Bend who lost their power just a few hours before us. The main problem that the ice storm brought was not cold temps. It got cold enough for the ice storm but then quickly warmed up to 40 degrees within about 24 hours. It was nice for the ice to melt, but our property is surrounded by cottonwood trees, so we had limbs breaking off all over the place. There was one full day that was really not safe to be outside, there were so many coming down.
By Sunday afternoon crews were still working and part of our road was still closed. We were becoming less hopeful that our power would come back on before the end of the weekend. But we did get power restored by Sunday evening at 7:00. We were so excited that we started laundry and ran the vacuum!
